Mesa Sprint Triathlon benefits youth programs

Do you want to help people?  Love to run marathons?  Mesa Arizona Sprint Triathlon may be just right for you.  The Mesa Arizona Sprint Triathlon benefits Mesa youth programs.

Mesa, AZ – Come and support the 4th annual Mesa Arizona Sprint Triathlon held on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2014 at Skyline Aquatic Center, 845 S. Crismon Rd.

“We are excited to continue the tradition of a community multi-sport event with the Mesa Sprint Triathlon,” Race Director, Becky Brown said. “The event offers individual, relay, and team competition in the sprint distance triathlon as well as a kid’s splash-n-dash, and 5K run race.  We want people of all ages and skill set to come out and enjoy this race because it directly benefits Mesa youth programs.”

Sponsored by the Foundation for Mesa Parks and Recreation, this non-profit organization raises support through fundraisers that benefit youth who cannot afford recreational programs, swim classes and camps offered by Mesa Parks and Recreation.

“Without the Foundation for Mesa Parks and Recreation and fundraisers like Mesa Sprint Triathlon, we wouldn’t be able to assist families who need that extra support,” Mesa Parks, Recreation and Commercial Facilities Director, Marc Heirshberg said. “We feel that every child should have the opportunity to play and learn with us.”

This year the Mesa Sprint Triathlon hopes to reach a goal of 500 participants. “We had close to 400 our first year,” Brown said, “Our main goal is to raise enough support to help these kids who can’t enjoy summer camps, swim classes, and other recreational classes like most kids do every year.”

Cost of the triathlon is $65 for individuals and $85 for relay teams, $20 for the 5K run, and $15 for the Kids Splash-n-Dash. All participants will receive a dry-fit race shirt and finishers medal. The top three finishers in each age group and category will receive additional recognition and gift items.
