Gobankingrates.com analyzed hundreds of US cities for their job availability and affordable housing. Factors such as median list price, typical market rent, and the unemployment rate were just some of the deciding factors. Each city had to have values lower than the national average in each category and the study then scored the 50 qualifying cities. The study looked at the labor force participation rate, median household income, and livability score for each city. Livability is scored out of a possible 100. Mesa came in at #3.

Mesa Arizona, located just outside of Scottsdale in Phoenix in Maricopa County offers some of the most affordable housing with a low unemployment rate.

Mesa Arizona has a population of about 460,000 residents. Even though it is very popular for snowbirds and retirees, the median age is actually 36. 9.6% of residents are civilian veterans.

87.5% of residents have earned high school diplomas or higher with nearly 25% having graduated with a college degree or higher. There are several private schools as well as highly rated public schools throughout Mesa Arizona, making it a great location for families with school-age children.

Mesa is also an extremely healthy community. 85% of residents are non-smokers and 80% of adults report leisure time and physical activity a priority. 78% of residents are considered a healthy weight, with adults reporting a BMI of less than 30. 80% of residents are insured and Mesa ranks #1 for healthy outcomes throughout Maricopa County and #3 for healthy behaviors and health factors.

Maybe it’s the weather? Maybe it’s the affordability… Maybe it’s a combination of both. Whatever it is, Mesa makes a wonderful place to call home. Our traffic is lighter than in Phoenix or neighboring Scottsdale and because of this, commute time is shortened. Stress plays a huge factor in our health and I don’t know what about you, but traffic can be one of the biggest stress-inducing factors out there. But, it’s hard to be stressed when the roads are clear, the tops down on the convertible, and you’re soaking up that beautiful Arizona sunshine.
