New Report: Retirees Choose Quality Over Quanity

A new article in the business insider stated that luxury homebuyers are surprising agents all over the country by choosing quality over quantity. This means that instead of bigger properties, larger lots, and more extravagant homes, their choosing smaller properties with more amenities. It seems that retirees, baby boomers, and luxury home buyers prefer spending their money on quality amenities rather than simply a large property that they have to maintain.

I’m seeing that in the Mesa Arizona real estate market as well. Snowbirds and people moving here for the sunshine and warm weather are looking for a full-service style community. This could mean a 55+ community with all the amenities or a condominium or townhouse community that offers an active social calendar, swimming pools, resort-style amenities, restaurants, lounges, tennis clubs, and golf courses. It seems like the price might be the same but people are exchanging the high-priced home for high-priced amenities.

According to the article, wealthier people are prioritizing quality over space so much so that they can spend thousands of dollars a month to live in these luxury, extended–stay hotels just for the convenience and amenities. If everything you want is in a maintenance-free environment, why choose a large home that you have to maintain yourself?

According to an article by the Wall Street Journal, the number of upscale extended-stay hotel rooms has increased by 34% over the last five years. Because of this, many of these townhouse communities, condo complexes, and homeowner associations are catering to these demands and going to greater links to attract residents by offering increasingly lavish amenities.

Now, we may not see the type of amenities that say someone in the Miami real estate market or even the Southern California market might experience, but people are moving to the Mesa real estate market for the sunshine, weather, and wide open spaces coupled with those amenities. I mean, in downtown Miami you’re not going to get a large golf course with a 3-acre property to roam around on unless you’re spending a pretty penny.

Many of the active adult communities in Mesa offer a wide range of perks such as golf course memberships, tennis courts, all types of sports memberships, active adult social calendars, resort style swimming pools that can be used year-round plus many more options. From dog parks to car washing stations, restaurants and tiki lounges, people are choosing convenience over space any day.
